3 Reasons You Haven’t Started English Classes, and Why You Should

MONTERREY, N.L. - Learning a second language like English is daunting. It’s a Germanic language. There are no accents on the letters. The sentence structure is different. The words are different. The pronunciation is harsh. No one rolls their R’s! The list goes on and on. That sounds exhausting!

Furthermore, who really wants to spend their evenings after a long day at work or school studying and practicing another language? Why bother? It would be more fun to relax on the couch in our free time with a bowl of ice cream and watch TV.

There are many obvious reasons to start learning English – a bigger salary being the best one of all, but we won’t go into all of those details in our very first blog.

What we would like to focus on instead is – Why haven’t you started learning English?

Lack of Time:

There is so little time these days from going to work or school, family events, extracurricular activities, and on top of all of that wondering if water will be available. It’s hard to imagine that carving out two to three hours a week for English classes plus studying would be possible.

The fact that you are here, reading this blog, means that you are considering learning English. That means there is a spark of interest which means that this is important for you or for your family member. When something is important, and something will make a difference in your life, you can and should prioritize that. All of the other demands on time can be reprioritized. Take a look at your day. Is the time spent watching TV as important as learning English? Can you meet your friends an hour later to give you time to go to class? Can you wake up one hour earlier or go to bed one hour later to exercise, clean the house, or finish work deliverables just so you will have time for English?

Everyone, everywhere has the same 168 hours in a week. If you want to learn English with a great teacher, it is possible to start right now. All you have to do is rebalance your day which is a lot like balancing your checking account. In the same way you ask yourself if you want to spend the extra money on that pair of shoes this paycheck, ask yourself if you want to spend the time at this party this week, or would you rather be learning something that will change your future?

The Cost is Too Much:

The great news is that we at M&English Academy believe that high-quality education should be accessible to all so we offer extremely competitive prices. See our prices here: www.mandenglishacademy.mx

The fact of the matter is that the cost of not learning English actually costs more over a lifetime than the cost to learn it. Being proficient in English can increase your salary by up to 50%. It makes you more competitive in the job market, which gives you more opportunities for work, which gives you more money.

We understand that it’s hard to prioritize paying for extracurricular activities – especially education. If you’re in college or school, can you just learn English there? If you’re an adult, why bother with a class? You can simply learn from a popular app.

Learning English in a small group setting with a dedicated teacher is worth the extra cost. Unlike large school classrooms or phone apps, having someone there to immediately help you correct any pronunciation problems, and who is actively engaging you in the learning process will prevent you from learning incorrectly. It’s always hard to unlearn something once it’s gotten in the muscle memory.

It Will Take Too Long:

Becoming proficient in a second language does take years of study and practice. But starting now is an investment in your future. If you don’t start now, odds are in five years an opportunity will arise, and you will look back and think, “I wish I had started English classes years ago.”

Spending two or three hours a week in a small group setting with a dedicated teacher who cares if you succeed will accelerate your learning. The encouragement and motivation as well as immediate feedback from Maestra Martha will help you learn much quicker. Small class sizes with fellow students who are also motivated to learn will provide you with encouragement as well.

At M&English Academy, we believe that there is no better time to start English classes than now. Starting small and seeing incremental growth overtime is lifechanging. Think of your education like a seed the farmer plants in the ground. Over time, that seed will grow into a full-grown plant or tree, producing fruit or beautiful flowers. If the farmer simply left the seed on the shelf and kept waiting for just the right conditions or just the right amount time and money to plant - nothing would ever happen.
